International Women's Day Celebration at KU by the School of Social Sciences in collaboration with Women's Cell and NSS

The Assam Kaziranga University, on 10th March, 2023, celebrated International Women's Day organized by The School of Social Sciences in collaboration with Women's Cell and NSS. The program commenced at 9:00am with a rally by the NSS volunteers team, with powerful women empowering messages depicted on posters and slogans. Since the theme this year was, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” the next event was a session on Digital and Finance Literacy and Scheme Awareness Program, for the ASHA workers and the women housekeeping staff of KU.

The next session was graced by the two eminent personalities as guests of honor who were  Prof Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Vice-chancellor, Assam Women's University, Jorhat and Ms  Dimple Sarma, writer, social worker and an associate of Assam Police, Jorhat. The session started with an inaugural address delivered by  Dr. Veera Talukdar, Registrar, The Assam Kaziranga University where she highlighted the enormous  potentialities and strength possessed by a woman.

While delivering her speech on the occasion, Prof Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar  also highlighted the inherent and acquired potentialities of a woman and the need to work in collaboration with men rather than creating a separate image of woman as a ‘superwoman’.  In her speech, Ms Dimple Sarma emphasized the importance of self development and self dependency for women to succeed in life.  The event continued with the performance of a cultural dance item, and a drama on women empowerment by the students of KU, the felicitation of the women faculty and staff members of the entire university  by Dr. Veera Talukder as a token  of appreciation of  their incessant efforts and hard-work. This was followed by the distribution of prizes for the winners of drawing and letter writing inter school competitions by Ms Bandana Thakur, Assistant Professor, School of Social Sciences.  The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Saurabhi Sarmah, Associate Professor, School of Social Sciences and Chairperson of the Women Cell, KU.
