Online Applications are invited for admission to Ph. D. programs in following disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Information Technology/ Pharmacy/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Medical Laboratory Technology/ Physiotherapy/ Social Sciences/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Management.

Eligibility Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks or is equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 10-point scale OR a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. program with atleast 55% marks in aggregate or it's equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks or it's equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates.

Application Procedure:

Interested and eligible candidates can apply by submitting the duly filled prescribed online application form: https://forms.gle/krWUL8i2mHY6HpMd8 and submitting application fees of Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only) in Online to “North-Eastern Knowledge Foundation” payable at Jorhat, Assam. After the payment kindly provide the details of Internet Banking Transaction ID/UPI Transaction ID.

Admission Procedure:

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in KUEST conducted by the University (70% weightage) followed by personnel interview (30% weightage). Those who have qualified and possess a valid scorecard in CSIR-UGC NET (Category -1, 2 & 3)/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/DST-INSPIRE or equivalent national level examination/ fellowship/ GATE/ GPAT and M.Phil degree holders in the last two years shall be exempted from KUEST. However, they should appear for the personnel interview as per the scheduled date.

Special Note:

  • The marks obtained in the CSIR-UGC NET (Category -2 & 3) will be valid for a period of one year and 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview.

Admission procedure

The guidelines for admissions for Ph.D. programme-2026 are as follows.

KUEST-2026 Exam Pattern

  • Candidates shall be admitted in the Ph.D. programme based on merit in written test (KUEST-2026) and personal interview.
  • Qualifying candidates will be required to take an Entrance Test, Kaziranga University Eligibility and Scholastic Test (KUEST-2026) for Research, followed by the Personal Interview on the mentioned date.
  • 6Candidates who have cleared UGC-NET-JRF/LS of CSIR-UGC NET/GATE/GPAT in the last 2 years or valid score card in the relevant subjects will get preference and shall be exempted from KUEST-2026. They will however require to appear for the Personal Interview.
    The KUEST-2026 will be given two hours exam duration to answer.
  • Section-1: Common Paper Exam: Research Methodology (Total 50 Marks; MCQ Type of Questions; One Mark Each Question).
  • Section-2: Subject Specific Paper Exam: Computer Science and Engineering/ Civil Engineering/Electronics and Communication Engineering/Electrical Engineering/ Information Technology/ Pharmacy/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Medical Laboratory Technology/Physiotherapy/Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Management/Social Sciences (Total 50 Marks; MCQ Type of Questions; One Mark Each Question).
  • KUEST Qualifying Marks for Personal Interview: Candidates who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview.

Personal Interview

  • Candidates have to give a presentation on the proposed research topic. Presentation duration is 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes’ discussion. Candidate must prepare a synopsis (Hard copy) of the proposed research topic.
  • 50% weightage will be given on the presentation on the proposed research topic and 50% weightage will be given on Post Graduate Dissertation/Research Work.

The overall merit will be calculated out of 200 marks.

At the time of the interview: candidates are required to bring a research proposal, not exceeding 300 words, which will describe.

  • Reason for the candidate’s interest in this area

Course credit requirement, course work, course registration

  • After having been admitted as a doctoral student, each Ph.D. student shall be required to undertake course work as per the recommendation of the UGC for a minimum period of one semester and maximum of two semesters. The course work shall be treated as pre-Ph.D preparation and must include a course on Research Methodology which may include quantitative methods, computer applications, research and publication ethics and review of published research in the relevant field etc. as recommended by University Grants Commission (UGC). Other courses shall be advanced level courses preparing the students for Ph.D. degree.

  • Ph.D. students shall have to take courses offered by the concerned Department/School for the Ph.D programme.
  • The UDRC shall suggest course work depending on the specific requirements of the area of research and the previous knowledge, expertise and experience of the candidate.
  • The Board of Studies of the Department/School where the scholar pursues his/her research shall design the courses except Research Methodology and get them approved in the Academic Council (AC).
  • A Research Scholar shall appear before the SDPC once in six months to make a presentation of the progress of his/her work for evaluation and further guidance. The six monthly progress reports shall be submitted by the approved SDPC members to Dean Research’s office with a copy to the Research Scholar.
  • A student must secure a CGPA of 6 (six) in course work in order to continue and submit his/her Ph.D. thesis. The evaluation procedures and the computation of SGPA/CGPA shall be done according to the procedures adopted for the master’s programme of The Assam Kaziranga University.
  • A Ph.D. scholar is expected to successfully complete the course work in one semester, after which she/he becomes eligible to present the synopsis of research work. In case a scholar fails to appear or secure less than 6 CGPA, he/she can appear the examination for improvement at the end of second semester. If he/she fails to clear the course work by the end of second semester, he/she shall be removed from the rolls. There will be no re-admission in case of PhD programs.
  • Candidates already holding M.Phil. Degree and admitted to the Ph.D. programs may be exempted by the Department from the Ph.D. course work only as per the Regulation of UGC guidelines. All other candidates admitted to the Ph.D program shall be required to complete the Ph.D. course work prescribed by the Department/School.

Attendance during Course Work:

  • The minimum requirement of attendance for completing the coursework shall be 75%. The doctoral student should register for every semester as per the KU Doctoral programme guidelines.
  • For special cases, condoning in shortfall of the attendance below required attendance will be at the discretion of the Vice Chancellor of The Assam Kaziranga University.

Attendance during Research Work:

  • During research work, full time Ph.D. candidates, sponsored and project categories shall be required to maintain a minimum attendance of 75% in each semester.
  • Ph.D. candidates in part time category shall be required to fulfill residential requirement of equivalent to one semester during the Ph.D. Programme before submission of the thesis.
