Women Cell of Assam Kaziranga University jointly Celebrated World Sisterhood Day on 5th October.

The Women Cell of Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat, proudly hosted the World Sisterhood Day celebration, uniting members of the community in a meaningful observance of sisterhood on 5th October 2024 at univerirty auditorium. This event was organized in collaboration with Mothers Army, Kakojan College, DCB Girls College, and the School of Social Sciences with an aim to providing a platform to the girls and women folks of the place for expressing their skills and talents.

The celebration commenced with a lighting ceremony led by Dr. H. Ravishankar Kamath, Registrar, Dr. Archana Bhattacharjee, President of the Mothers Army Assam Chapter, members of the DCB Girls College Women Cell, members of the Kakojan Women Cell, members of the Women Cell of Assam Kaziranga University, and faculty members from the School of Social Sciences.

The event began with an interaction with the Vice Chancellor of Assam Kaziranga University, Dr. P.K. Mishra, who welcomed the invited dignitaries from the collaborating institutions. He suggested that women’s cells across all institutions collaborate to organize a national conference on issues related to women at Kaziranga University to empower of women of the entire northeastern region.

This was followed by a welcome address given by Dr. H. Ravishankar Kamath, who emphasized the importance of sisterhood and its power, highlighting how women are capable of bringing innovation and change to society. The event aimed to inspire participants to move forward with courage and determination as they navigated new horizons amid challenges. This year, the Women Cell of Assam Kaziranga University introduced a fresh approach by partnering with local institutions and Mothers Army, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting women in the region.

“We were excited to celebrate the strength of sisterhood and to create a platform for collaboration among institutions committed to women's empowerment,” said Dr. Archana Bhattacharjee, President of the Mothers Army Assam Chapter.

The event featured a series of captivating performances from students and faculty of Kakojan College, Kaziranga University, and DCB Girls College, showcasing themes of women’s strength and resilience. Highlights included poetry recitations, musical duets, and thought-provoking skits, with a captivating play on violence against women titled Nyaai, enacted by the students of DCB Girls College.

This was followed by a badge distribution ceremony led by the Mothers Army, symbolizing the unity and strength of women, marking a poignant moment in the day’s celebrations. This gesture served as a reminder of the support and solidarity women provide one another in their journeys.

The program was attended by senior faculty members of DCB Girls Coellege Ms. Dorothy G Momin, HOD Englihs, DCB Girls College, Ms Ipshita Dowarah, Assitant Prof, Political Science, Kakojan College,  Dr Bobita Borkotoky, HOD, Botany, Kakojan College, Ms Kanon Deka, HOD Assamese and Convenor of Women Cell, Kakojan College to name a few.

The day concluded with heartfelt gratitude expressed by Dr. Saurabhi Sarmah, Chairperson, Women Cell, Assam Kaziranga Univeristy who acknowledged the contributions of all participants and emphasized the importance of celebrating such occasions for upliftment and empowerment of one another. In her concluding remak, Dr Sarmah extended heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported the event, making it a resounding success. The celebration not only highlighted the significance of sisterhood but also reinforced the commitment to empowering women within the community.
