The department of Medical Laboratory Technology, Assam Kaziranga University, in collaboration with the Microbiologist Society, India (MBSI), successfully hosted a prestigious award presentation ceremony to honor the outstanding contributions of Dr. Jagadish Mahanta, MD, D.Sc. to the field of medical science and biotechnology.
In recognition of his exemplary dedication, achievements, and over four decades of pioneering work in medical research and academic leadership, Dr. Mahanta was conferred the ‘Lifetime Devotion Award in Biotechnology’ by the Microbiologist Society, India.
Dr. Mahanta’s distinguished career includes 45 years of service across premier institutions such as Guwahati Medical College, PGIMER-Chandigarh, and the Indian Council of Medical Research - Regional Medical Research Centre, North Eastern Region. His remarkable contributions to infectious disease research, public health, and epidemiology have not only influenced scientific policy but have also brought international recognition to the region.
With more than 555 research publications, leadership in groundbreaking initiatives such as the MoSQuIT system, and honors including fellowships from the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, London, as well as the naming of a mosquito species in his honor, Dr. Mahanta continues to inspire generations of scientists and medical professionals.
