The School ofSocial Sciences celebrated world social work day on 21st of March with the theme “Respecting Diversity through Joint Social Action” in the university premises.
Every year, World Social Work Day is celebrated across the world on the third Tuesday of March, and events are organized throughout the month of March. The day is an opportunity for social workers and others in the social service sector to celebrate their achievements as well as to raise awareness and support for the important role that social workers play in the lives of children, families and communities facing adversity. The day calls attention to the need for further planning, development and support to the profession and social service sector.
The celebration started with a lamp lighting ceremony by the Chief guest, Dean school of social sciences and the faculty members of KUSSS at 2.30 pm in the SET Seminar Hall. This was followed by the inaugural address delivered by Dr Rakesh Rai, Dean School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga university where he highlighted the importance of social work as a discipline and its crucial role in societal progress. The chief guest of the occasion was Ms Shaira Rahman, the founder principal of Prerona- Shisu Pratibandhi Kendra, Jorhat. Ms Rahman in her speech highlighted the importance of caring for those children with special needs; she also shared her experiences of working with such children, about her Ngo and showed all the activities done by her Ngo to help and support children with disabilities.
Right after the guest completed her speech a documentary was shown which was prepared by the students of BSW 2nd semester on the life of a social worker with the title “social workers in action”. There was a Doodle art and photography competition simultaneously going on with the event. Many students from all the schools actively participated in the event. At the end of the formal event there was a plantation drive outside the university campus which was done by the guest, dean, faculty members and the students of the School of Social Sciences. As soon as the plantation drive was over the winners of the Doodle art competition were announced. The event was successfully hosted by Ms Diya Devi of BSW 4th semester and Sneha Mazumdar of BSW 2nd semester. At last, the vote of thanks was delivered by Sahin Rahman- a student of BSW 4th semester.
